Fleetwood Town have signed defender Jesse Dempsey on a season-long loan from Waterford.

The 21-year-old Republic of Ireland age group international arrives at Highbury Stadium after making 26 senior appearances for Waterford.

Dempsey, who started his career with Wexford Albion, joined Waterford's academy ranks in 2021, before earning a move to Italian side Lecce in 2024.

He returned to Waterford six months later and forced his way into the senior squad, signing his first professional contract with the club last year.

Fleetwood Town have signed former Wrexham midfielder Andy Cannon on a three-year deal.

Cannon, 30, who was released by the Welsh club at the end of last season, has clocked up 330 senior appearances for clubs including Rochdale, Portsmouth, Hull City and Stockport County.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at Burton Albion.

Cannon told the Fleetwood website what attracted him to the League Two club and he said: "The gaffer wants to be successful, so do I. He's got ambitions, I've got ambitions. I feel we can work together and hopefully have a successful season."

A product of Rochdale's academy, Cannon made his first-team debut in 2014 before going on to establish himself as a key figure at Spotland.

He moved to Portsmouth in January 2019, where he spent two years before joining Championship side Hull.

In December 2022, Cannon completed a move to Wrexham and played an important role during one of the club's most successful periods, helping them achieve three consecutive promotions, from the National League to the Championship.

Guyana captain Elliot Bonds has joined Salford City from Fleetwood Town for an undisclosed fee.

The London-born midfielder, 26, also had spells with Dagenham & Redbridge, Cheltenham Town and Kidderminster Harriers and has signed a multi-year deal with Salford.

Bonds joined Fleetwood in 2024 and was voted the supporters' player of the season in his first campaign before being named captain last year.

He is targeting promotion from League Two with Salford and told their website, external: "I've heard great things about pre-season, the new manager and his coaching team.

"With the team we're building, with players with heart like myself that we're signing, I think this season is one where we have to go one step further. If we stick together and everyone brings the best version of themselves, I believe we will achieve that."

Blackburn Rovers have brought in Steve Curwood from Fleetwood Town as their new chief executive officer.

Curwood succeeds Steve Waggott, who has left Blackburn after seven years at the club, and he officially takes over on 1 July.

Curwood spent 18 years at Fleetwood, working in various roles across the League Two club, and served on the EFL board.

He told the club website:, external "I'm delighted to be joining Blackburn Rovers. It's a club with a proud history and a passionate fanbase and I'm excited to get started."
